Joris Voorn is a record producer and Dj from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Raised in a musical family, music naturally became an intrinsic part of Voornʼs life from an early age.  Electronic music first caught his attention in the mid-90ʼs, and he started DJʼing in 1997. After developing a more focused interest in house and techno, Joris invested in the versatile MC-303 Groovebox and began to experiment with synth sounds and drumloops. By the end of 2000 Joris began building a small studio to produce his own music, which led to his first release called ʻmuted trax pt.1ʼ on Keynote.  His first EP was massive success, filling the record boxes of Carl Craig, Laurent Garnier, DJ Rush and Technasia.  In 2003 ʻLost memories Pt.1ʼ was released on Technasiaʼs SINO label and was followed by ʻLost memories Pt.2ʼ containing the anthem ʻIncidentʼ which was heard on dancefloors around the world. After the success of ʻIncidentʼ, Voorn released his debut cd album called ʻFuture Historyʼ on the Sino label. Encompassing 3 years of ideas and inspiration, the cd contains 20 diverse tracks, a seamless soundscape that represents his arrival as one of the most relevant techno producers of this time. In the summer of 2005 Joris Voornʼs new personal outlet called ʻgreenʼ saw the light of day. ʻA dedicated mindʼ was released as the first EP, which garnered success globally. He also completed his debut DJ mix CD for theFuse club in Belgium. After Dave Clarke, DJ Hell and Technasia, Fuse presented Joris Voorn to mix part 4 of their international residentʼs dj mix albums. The mix contained over 40 tracks of timeless techno music mixed with the help of Ableton Live for its endless mixing and editing possibilities. In 2006 the sophomore release under Voornʼs Green label, named ʻMPX_309ʼ, was a crossover techno work that was played out by techno, minimal, house and trance DJs. During the same year Voorn created his second album, released worldwide in June 2007. This new piece of work called ʻFrom a deep placeʼ featured many different styles of electronic music, ranging from atmospheric interludes to broken beats, house and deep soulful techno. The focus point of the ʻFrom a deep placeʼ CD has been the listener rather than the dancer and was received enthusiastically by the electronic music community. Some of the works were edited to more dj friendly tracks for the vinyl release of the album. During the summer of 2007 Joris has been touring with his new live performance insupport of his album release. More recently, Joris has been focusing on collaborative efforts producing remixes for respected and diverse artists uch as Robert Babicz, Nic Fanciulli, Slam, Steve Angello, Sebo K and Jerome Sydenham. The ʻDark Flower Magnolia Mixʼ for Robert Babicz turned out to be another summer anthem in electronic dance music, and was a favourite of DJʼs like Sven Vath, Dubfire, Pete Tong and John Digweed among many others. In 2008, following the success of his resident advisor podcast, Joris was invited to produce episode 14 of the Balance DJ mix CD series from Australia. Following in the footsteps of James Holden and Lee Burridge, Joris constructed a layered and seamless mix of electronic dance music on a double CD. An epic mix in the very best sense of the word, Balance 014 achieves the rare feat of combining variety and consistency, making it perfect fortrainspotters and dancers alike. The tracks change quickly and quietly, but the groove stays. An accompanying world tour will follow where Joris will bring the essence of this studio project to the stage, using all different elements of the mix into a full range club experience. As a DJ and live performer Joris Voorn has joined an elite group of international DJʼs whose musical talent hasacquired global appeal. He has performed across Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Austsralia,Russia, Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Detroit, Chicago and New York.

according to resident advisor joris voorn changed the way we think about mix albums in 2009 with balance 014. it was voted  fourth best compilation of 2009. we actually think it was the best compilation of 2009 but we’re a bit biased …

joris voorn got voted 10th best dj and live act in the world in 2009 according to resident advisor. it shows that joris had one of the biggest years yet, taking ibiza by storm and releasing one of the year’s finest mix cd’s with balance 014. congratulations! 

pitto - feelin’ remixes out now!

who would’ve thought it, techno dj’s playing filtered house. well, earlier this year it happened, and it was pitto’s ‘feelin” that caused the sensation. the original and superb dub, has gone on to become one of the biggest club releases of 2009. whispered rumour of a remix package has abound, and these were confirmed with early copies of a district one remix finding support amongst the dutch elite. well now its time to confirm the rumour, and not only bring you the district one remix, but bolster the package with a devastating remix from the master, joris voorn. supported by dj hell, pete tong, dj t, 2000 and one, michel cleis, sis, tobi neumann and many more. enjoy!

rejected label night at cafe d’anvers!

friday the 13th of november joris voorn and edwin oosterwal will host a rejected label night at the legendary club cafe d’anvers in belgium. cafe d’anvers has been around for 20 years and joris and edwin are very excited to play at the club. hope to see you there!

this year joris voorn and edwin oosterwal will attend the ade 2009. on thursday joris will be part of a panel about the art of how to sustain success, to keep your fans and how to make money with attitude. friday joris and edwin will play at the official buma cultuur coctail hour. and on saturday edwin will be checking your demos as part of the demopitch at ade next. see you at the ade!

joris voorn wins award!

last night at pacha (ibiza), joris voorn was announced as the 2009 dj awards “best breakthrough act”. the 12th edition of the dj awards saw the biggest names from across the genres of dance music gather to celebrate another unforgettable season, and for joris voorn 2009 is proving to be an unforgettable year. it’s been quite a ride for this dutch whizz-kid from amsterdam. starting with his highly acclaimed balance 014 mix album, where he mixed over 100 tracks and samples into a mind-blowing musical journey. this landmark mix album was followed with several critically praised and high-selling releases on green and rejected. and his latest release dusty house room 2 is topping the beatport chart. so we congratulate joris for this great achievement in his career, and we know that this is only the beginning!

rejected’s dusty house series got off to the finest of starts with room 1. featuring the tracks ‘empty trash’ and the stunning ’sweep the floor’ by joris voorn, it instantly became a dj favourite, finding support from the world’s leading lights. how do you follow up such a big release? with another of course! check out room 2. another two choice cuts of voorn at his best. taking oldskool samples and sensibilities, and matching them with new school muscle, he presents the incredible ‘chase the mouse’ and ‘we’re all clean’. which works best? well thats for you to decide. joris voorn & edwin oosterwal’s green imprint is probably best known for it’s modern classics ‘blank’ and ‘mpx309’. now they return with another classic: dosem’s beach kisses. 2008 saw the first release of the original ‘beach kisses’ on the ‘neue larmklassiker’ label. heavily supported by a wide range of dj’s, it was picked and edited by joris voorn to feature on his excellent ‘balance’ compilation. with voorn being such a huge fan of the track, it made sense for him to pick it up for ‘green’. so today, we bring ‘beach kisses’ the joris voorn green mix. powerful synth’s are the order of the day on this euphoric masterpiece. on the flip dosem has provided us with his own new edit under his ’sendo’ guise. an atmospheric delight. and keep your ears and eyes peeled for the upcoming album ‘niwa’ on green from swiss sensation ripperton!

it’s been a while but joris voorn and edwin oosterwal teamed up again and they have just released another bomb. this time not on one of their own labels but on len faki’s figure label. it’s a split platter with slam. slam’s contribution is an absolute monster, a huge peak-time, dark-as-you-like floor smasher. rejected’s slyly named “peanuts” sounds like the best remix that never came out of a certain similarily nut-based anthem from a couple of years ago … no gimmick though, this is a perfectly constructed piece of dancefloor business,  just those drums on their own would have been a must buy tune!

hot on the heels of one of 2009’s hottest tracks to date, pitto’s ‘feelin’ (see below), comes the next golden nugget on our label. this time we bring you the first release of an exciting new series called dusty house. the dusty house series sees us first enter room 1. inside we find two choice cuts by joris voorn. ’sweep the floor’ finds us delving into oldskool territory. tricky hi-hats, get eaten up by the subtle marching bassline that increases in strength. a cheeky guitar lick, horn stabs, vocal drop and we’re off. it’s a floor burner of the highest order, and one that will keep the floor grooving throughout! ’empty trash’ (you following the theme right?), shows voorn’s skill of injecting his techno weight into his house productions. here he gives us menacing synths, that stalk us. yet when primed and at their most dangerous, perfectly timed, he drops the vocal, and wraps us in the comforting bassline. support by luciano, karotte, gregor tresher, 2000 and one, tobi neumann and many more.
